The Ultimate Cup European Series turned to Hockenheim for the 3rd round of the season. A superb start to the week-end saw the #88 car, with Dani Maciá, Raphaël Narac, and Jacek Zielonka, and the #1 car, with Georgios Kolovos, Sacha Lehmann, and Axel Gnos, secure P1 and P2 respectively during Thursday’s practice sessions, setting high expectations for the days ahead.
Friday continued to showcase the LMP3 cars’ dominance around the Hockenheimring. The #88 car topped the timing sheet, placing P1, while the #1 car finished close behind in P2 during the only practice session of the day.
Saturday, however, brought some unforeseen challenges. The #1 car was unable to set a time due to an unexpected engine issue that left it in the pits throughout the day. Nevertheless, the #88 car, driven by Jacek Zielonka and Dani Maciá, managed to secure P5 for the 4 hour race with a strong performance in the very wet conditions at Hockenheim. Raphaël Narac was unable to showcase his pace due to the cancellation of the third qualifying session.
Sunday’s 4 Hours of Hockenheim was a race full of drama. Starting from P20, the #1 car faced a tough challenge ahead, but the team was ready for the battle. From the start, Georgios Kolovos was able to make his way through the field in the dry conditions. After handing the car over to his co-drivers and continuing the strong pace, they triumphed and finished P1 in class. The #88 car started with Jacek Zielonka behind the wheel, beginning from P5. The car showed great pace, battling in the field and finishing close behind the sister car in P2.
It was a great achievement for the team to secure another class win after a very tough Saturday, making it three out of three this season. After the summer break, the team will be back at Mugello for the fourth round of the Ultimate Cup European Series.
